AI agents are checking your website now. Here is the VibeSignal readiness checklist

AI readiness is no longer a vague SEO trend. It is a public-surface checklist: discovery files, structured content, crawler policy, protocol hints, commerce signals, and prompt-level proof that answer engines can describe the business correctly.

AI AGENT READINESS / FIND, READ, USE, VERIFY

    The shift

Your website is being read by agents before people

The old website job was simple: load quickly, rank in search, convince the visitor. The new job is broader. AI systems have to discover the site, parse what the business does, decide whether the content is usable, and turn it into an answer without losing the truth.

    AI Mode scale

    1B+

Google says AI Mode passed one billion monthly users.

    Agent traffic

    3 lanes

Cloudflare now separates Search, Agent, and Training crawler purposes.

    VibeSignal scan

    5 buckets

Discovery, content, bot policy, protocols, and commerce readiness.

    Research note

Google's Search I/O 2026 update says AI Mode surpassed one billion monthly users and introduces information agents that monitor the web for people. Chrome's Lighthouse agentic browsing docs now describe llms.txt as an optional machine-readable summary for LLMs and AI agents. Cloudflare's AI traffic controls make the same point from the infrastructure side: not all automated traffic has the same purpose.

    Mental model

AI readiness is not one file. It is a chain of evidence.

A useful agent has to answer four questions before it can help a buyer: can I find the site, can I read the important content, am I allowed to use this surface, and can I prove the business is what it claims to be?

    Find

Robots policy, sitemaps, canonical URLs, clean navigation, and stable public pages help agents reach the right surface without guessing.

    Read

Semantic HTML, structured data, clear offers, pricing, policies, and useful public copy help systems understand the business without inventing services or locations.

    Use

Protocol hints such as security.txt, OpenAPI, MCP discovery, agent metadata, and checkout or booking cues tell agents what actions are appropriate.

    Verify

Public trust profiles, scan grades, domain verification, badges, reviews, and source citations give the answer engine a stronger reason to trust the result.

    The trap

Do not treat agent readiness like a magic tag. A blank llms.txt, fake schema, or generic AI policy page will not make the business more visible. The useful work is making the public site easier to understand and harder to misread.

    Checklist

    The AI agent readiness checklist

This is the minimum practical pass for a public business website. It is intentionally boring because boring signals are the ones agents can verify.

    01

    Discovery files

Publish a clean robots.txt, sitemap, canonical URLs, and useful llms.txt. The goal is not ranking theater; it is to help machines locate the real source of truth quickly.

    02

    Readable business facts

Put the business name, category, locations, products, pricing, policies, audience, and proof in plain public content. Do not hide critical facts behind images, carousels, or vague hero copy.

    03

    Structured evidence

Use JSON-LD only where it matches the visible page. Organization, LocalBusiness, Product, Offer, FAQ, Breadcrumb, and Article schema are useful when they describe real content.

    04

    Crawler policy

Decide what Search, Agent, and Training traffic should access. If you block everything, do not be surprised when answer systems cannot explain you. If you allow everything, know what you are exposing.

    05

    Protocol discovery

Add security.txt for vulnerability reporting, OpenAPI or MCP discovery only when you actually expose an API or agent tool, and well-known metadata only when it reflects a real capability.

    06

    Commerce readiness

Make pricing, checkout, booking, refund, shipping, and support paths legible. Agents cannot route buyers to an action they cannot see or trust.

    07

    Public trust proof

Run a VibeLeak scan, fix the obvious trust gaps, verify the domain, and publish a badge or public profile when the result is good enough to show.

    Workflow

Run VibeSignal first, then hand the fix list to your agent

VibeSignal is built for the first pass: it checks the public website surface and turns missing AI signals into a fixable report.

    Discoverability

    20 pts

Sitemap, robots, canonical, and crawler-visible entry points.

    Content access

    20 pts

llms.txt, structured data, semantic public content.

    Protocols

    20 pts

security.txt, API, MCP, and agent-facing discovery where real.

    • Run a full VibeLeak scan or VibeSignal-only scan on the live URL.
    • Open the AI Signals view and look for missing discovery, content, bot policy, protocol, and commerce checks.
    • Export the VibeSignal Markdown report while signed in.
    • Give the Markdown handoff to your developer or coding agent and ship the fixes without inventing claims.
    • Run VibeSignal again and compare the category movement.

    Proof layer

Use VibeRank when signal readiness is not enough

VibeSignal tells you whether the site is structured for AI systems. VibeRank tests whether answer engines actually find and mention the business for buyer-style prompts.

    The practical sequence

Fix the public signals first with VibeSignal. Then use VibeRank on Pro or Agency to test the prompts that matter: exact-name, category, review, pricing, local, and comparison searches. If the business is absent, the report tells you what content, schema, citations, and proof the site needs next.

    FAQ

    Questions about AI agent readiness

The practical answers before you add another file to the root of your site.

    Is llms.txt required?

No. Chrome Lighthouse currently treats a missing llms.txt as optional, but a useful file can still help agents understand the high-level structure of a site. The stronger work is making the actual pages truthful, crawlable, and structured.

Should every business allow AI agents?

Not blindly. A business should decide what Search, Agent, and Training traffic should access. Product, booking, support, docs, and policy pages usually benefit from clarity. Private, paid, or sensitive content should be controlled.

    What should I fix first?

Fix discovery and factual content first: sitemap, robots, canonical URLs, business identity, pricing or booking path, contact details, and schema that matches the visible page. Then add optional protocol discovery only when the capability exists.
